Affiliated Faculty, Mission Systems Division

Jonathan Black is an Affiliated Faculty member of the National Security Institute's Mission Systems Division. Black also serves as co-director for the Center for Space Science and Engineering Research (Space@VT).

He is also a professor in the Crofton Dept of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering and a professor (by courtesy) of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research expertise includes Orbital Analysis, Space Systems Engineering, Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Advanced Sensing Technologies. Previously he was an associate professor of aerospace engineering at Virginia Tech and the Air Force Institute of Technology.

Black holds a Ph.D. from University of Kentucky in mechanical engineering, a M.S. from George Washington University's Joint Institute for Advancement of Flight Sciences in mechanical and aerospace engineering, and a B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in industrial engineering.
