A native of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Mark Thompson received his Ph.D. from Louisiana Tech University in May 2013 in Computational Analysis and Modeling, an interdisciplinary program in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics with a concentration in Cyberspace, Network Science, and Information Assurance. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Tulane University and holds master’s degrees in Business Administration and Mathematical Sciences from The University of Texas at Dallas.
Dr. Thompson has been teaching and advising students in Math and Computer Science with a special interest in Cybersecurity at the university level at Northwestern State University of Louisiana and the University of North Texas for the past 17 years. Prior to joining the ranks in academia, he spent nearly 16 years in industry at Bell-Northern Research, the research and development arm of Nortel Networks, on all phases of development as a senior member of scientific staff and systems architect on large, real-time telecommunications systems. Dr. Thompson has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal publications and conference papers in areas such Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Quantum Communications, Network Security, and Cryptography, and has secured over 1.5 million dollars in research grants.
