Research Associate, Intelligent Systems Division
Daniel Sobien is a research associate in the Intelligent Systems Division of the Virginia Tech National Security Institute.
Previously, Sobien worked for CACI with a government client to develop new visualization utilities in Python for their in-house CFD software and to update their code base to Python 3. During graduate school, he performed research in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of perturbations in Earth’s magnetic field from interactions with stratified ocean wakes. After graduating, Sobien spent three years at Lockheed Martin performing stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) to substantiate the structural airworthiness of aircraft modifications.
Sobien is an alumnus of Virginia Tech’s Aerospace and Ocean Engineering department, receiving his B.S. in 2013 and M.S. in 2016.
