Roy Hayes is the faculty advisor for Secure Human-Agent Teaming in the Intelligent Systems Division of the National Security Institute. His research has traditionally focused on developing optimal Courses of Action in time-sensitive, high-risk domains.

He is interested in situational awareness, intent inference, human-machine teaming, and reinforcement learning. Hayes is the CTO of Systems Engineering, Inc., whose primary business is installing and maintaining physical security and situational awareness platform. Hayes has also grown his company’s portfolio to include research with the Office of Naval Research, The Air Force, and the Department of Homeland Security. Hayes hopes to expand his research portfolio to include real-world applications and demonstration of human-machine teaming.

Hayes is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
