Nicola McCarthy is a Research Assistant Professor in the Intelligent Systems Division of the Virginia Tech National Security Institute (VTNSI).
Dr. McCarthy’s academic background and professional experience bridge the areas of statistical analysis, systems modeling and enterprise transformation, offering a data-driven approach to decision-making at all levels of an organization. Dr McCarthy’s dissertation focused on Competitive Advantage and Superior Performance in Enterprise Transformation. This included an application to chronic disease (Alzheimer’s Disease) management.
Prior to joining VTNSI, Dr. McCarthy was co-founder of an artificial intelligence company, Augmented Health Intelligence, and served as a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Stevens Institute of Technology.
Nicola’s current research interest includes modeling complex adaptive systems, data and advanced analytics applications, machine learning, explainable AI, and AI transformation.
Nicola has a Ph.D. from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Enterprise Systems, a M.S.in Statistics in Industrial Engineering and a M.S. in Strategic Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a B.A. in Joint Honors Mathematics and Statistics, from University College Cork, National University of Ireland. She received the President’s Fellowship Award Scholarship by the Georgia Tech Foundation in 2007 for her research and academic accomplishments.
